Viscopearl® Viscopearl (VP) is a biodegradable spherical bead made of cellulose derived from wood pulp. It is the product (FSC-C119241) that takes into consideration the environmental conservation of forests using raw materials certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) and is a material that is degraded into water and carbon dioxide by microorganisms existing in the natural environment (in soil and ocean water). VP offers a wide range of particle sizes from 3 µm to 4 mm and can be also made porous and lightweight with Rengo’s unique technology. It has a high affinity for both water and oil as well as chemical resistance and heat resistance, therefore it can be used for various purposes such as carriers for functional chemicals, additives for resin and rubber, abrasives, and raw materials for cosmetics. VP is marine-biodegradable (with “OK biodegradable MARINE”certificate*), consequently it is expected to help in the reduction of ocean microplastic waste by replacing plastic beads that may flow out into the ocean.
