Outline of this trial/verification project: Phase 1 •Main Objective: To examine the potential/possibilities of a resource recovery platform for EPR law enforcement. Phase 2 •Main Objective: To conduct a demonstration project of a value chain for sustainable resource recycling. Phase 3 •Main Objective: To select a city and implement the feasibility model at a minimum scale. Roles of each participant: RECOTECH: Providing the POOL system and designing an effective resource circulation scheme for manufacturers to utilize resources by optimizing collection and ensuring traceability. URENCO: As a state-owned enterprise, URENCO is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Construction and Natural Resource and Environment and is responsible for waste management, including collection, transportation, and processing in both urban and rural areas. JUNK&CO: Delegated by URENCO to implement resource collection, utilizing RECOTECH’s POOL system. About the POOL System: The POOL system is a web application that allows waste generators to record the location, type and volume of urban resources they generate. The POOL system visualizes the data on maps. It can be customized for each facility, which allows them to implement the POOL system with a low workload of just weighting and inputting data. The accumulated data can be processed and used for sustainability reporting and forecasting waste generation in the future, etc. Benefits of the POOL System 1. Visualizing Urban Resources It is extremely difficult to know when, where, what kind and what volume of urban resources are currently being wasted. The POOL system visualizes the data, thereby enabling us to design efficient ways to circulate potential resources. 2. Optimizing Collection With collection being the main cost driver in the recycling chain, optimising logistics is key for financial sustainability. By visualizing waste on a regional level, POOL optimizes efficiency and minimizes the cost of collection. 3. Optimizing Recycling Factories The POOL system also helps recyclers optimize the operation of their factories by sharing information on the kind and volume of waste that is carried in each day. 4. Ensuring Traceability of Recycled Materials By incorporating the participation of each stakeholder, the POOL system ensures traceability by connecting data throughout the recycling chain: waste generation, collection, compression, sorting, pelletizing, and logistics. Future prospects: We are aiming to build a reliable PCR material supply chain with ensured traceability by visualizing resource availability via our resource circulation platform, “POOL.” This will then allow us to design the most efficient material collection and recycling scheme based on the manufacturer’s demands, making it sustainable both environmentally and financially. We plan to unfurl a service that provides solutions for manufacturers facing the urgent need of incorporating PCR materials in their products due to tax reformation, and help them commit to material recycling instead of incineration. Our platform will build an optimized resource circulation scheme, reduce CO2 emissions from waste streams, thereby contributing to the transition to a decarbonized city.
