Scaling Behaviour Change: Plastic Reduction from Local Actions to Policy Pathways

Plastic pollution remains a major environmental challenge across ASEAN countries, where rapid urbanisation, consumption growth, and uneven waste management systems continue to drive plastic leakage into terrestrial and marine environments. While policy frameworks and technical solutions are advancing, behavioural factors, such as everyday consumption habits, social norms, and institutional practices, remain critical but often under-integrated in plastic reduction strategies.

The Behaviour Lab is a multi-partner platform committed to applying behavioural science to reduce plastic consumption and waste in the ASEAN region.

On 10 February 2026, the Behaviour Lab will convene a public dialogue bringing together researchers, practitioners, local governments and local innovators working at the forefront of behaviour change to reduce plastic consumption and pollution across ASEAN countries.

The event will focus on how community-level behaviour change initiatives, particularly from Bali, can generate actionable insights for local, national and regional policymaking. The dialogue will be composed of two panels: one highlighting local innovations and another examining policy integration across local/national/regional levels. Through the two panels, the dialogue will explore pathways for scaling effective behavioural interventions to support plastic and waste reduction efforts across the ASEAN region. Both panel sessions will be recorded and made available as learning materials on the upcoming Behaviour Lab website, extending the reach of the dialogue beyond the event itself.
