Capacity Building Programme for Reducing Recycling Related Marine Plastic Pollution in ASEAN Cities (CaRMPAC)

The Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific (RRC.AP) of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) with support from ERIA's Regional Knowledge Centre for Marine Plastic Debris launched the Capacity Building Programme for Reducing Recycling Related Marine Plastic Pollution in ASEAN Cities (CaRMPAC) in August 2024 in Vientiane, Lao PDR. This project's objective is to contribute to preventing recycling-related plastics and resin leakage into the marine environment through training, mentoring, and technical support across ASEAN Member States.

This project is the 2nd phase of an earlier project titled ‘Development and Dissemination of Technical Guidelines for the Prevention of Plastic and Pellets Pollution from Factories and Informal Recycling Facilities in ASEAN’ completed in 2023. CaRMPAC project bridges capacity gaps found in Phase 1 by developing adaptable training materials, multimedia knowledge products, and awareness-raising materials for six target countries: Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Philippines, and Thailand.
