This innovation relates to the production of biohybrid high density polyethylene (HDPE)/palm stearin polymer resin suitable for plastic packaging applications. Our eJau™ Biohybrid Resin consisted of locally sourced and biodegradable palm stearin as plasticizer with high-polyethylene (HDPE).
eJau™ Biohybrid Resin also exhibits good thermal and mechanical properties making it a practical green solution for plastic packaging applications. eJau™ Biohybrid Resin eliminates the use of a compatibilizer or reactive modifier commonly used in other biohybrid polymer blends. Patent application for this innovative biohybrid HDPE/Palm Stearin resin to be commercially known as eJau™ Biohybrid Resin has been filed in November 2020.
The eJau™ Biohybrid Resin has achieved a “Two Star” OK Biobased rating from the international OK Biobased certification body TUV Austria. Gaia Greentech Sdn Bhd intends to market eJau™ Biohybrid Resin both locally and internationally, in particular the growing European and Asia Pacific markets under the plastic packaging segment which accounts for about 26% of the total plastic industry volume and our target is to penetrate 1% out of total market.
Application of eco-friendly biohybrid resin in plastic products will lead to new niche applications and minimization of petroleum-based polymer usage as part of a wider approach to address plastic pollution as outlined in the national Roadmap Towards Zero Single-Use Plastics 2018-2030.
