GAEA works by collecting municipal solid waste from households and businesses that hold solid waste removal contracts with the company within the framework of the government license. GAEA is responsible for collecting waste only if it’s well-disposed in a garbage bin and is not responsible for collecting construction waste, garden waste, industrial waste. Nevertheless, GAEA can offer special services on request. Currently, GAEA is running pilot projects on recycling and composting, such as composting organic food from markets and restaurants, pulverizing glass bottles into sand, and recycling plastic bottles and foils. The company also offers cleaning services to clean and sweep the city main streets and maintain public gardens.
GAEA is cooperating with the government and NGOs to raise environmental awareness to the community through education programs, cleaning activities and training, which target public schools and poor villages. The awareness raising activities consist of proposing solutions to single-use plastics, facilitating training on how to sort/recycle waste and dispose the waste properly into the garbage bins.
