Beach Resort Guest Activities: Plastic Recycling and Upcycling Workshops

At The Datai Langkawi, we engage in small-scale recycling activities in which we involve our staff and guests. Through our Plastic Recycling and Upcycling Workshops, we aim to repurpose plastic materials that ultimately benefit the environment by reducing waste to landfills and conserving energy.

Using a range of tools, including The Sea Monkey machine, our staff and guests get to learn how we can turn plastic into different pieces of art and products such as small pouch bags, book covers, etc. Furthermore, we also convert certain types of plastic waste to different products (e.g. plastic coasters).

The Sea Monkey machine is designed for plastic recycling. Initially, sorted plastic enters the shredder hopper of the machine. The shredded plastic then moves into the extrusion machine, where it melts as the machine reaches a specific temperature. Next, the molten plastic flows into the injection machine and is poured into moulds to create plastic figurines for sale in The Lab or The Boutique of The Datai Langkawi.
