A plastic credit represents collecting or recycling one ton of plastic material, which can be transferred between organizations. They can be used by companies and other entities who desire to address their plastic footprint but are otherwise unable to do so in a practical or economically viable way. They can mitigate external environmental plastic waste beyond a company’s control and the unavoidable volume of a plastic footprint.
ClimeCo provides companies with a global portfolio of plastic credit projects with a diversity of geography, impacts, and circular economy solutions. Together, ClimeCo can help solve the ocean plastic waste crisis, scale recycling, and create new waste infrastructure.
In Cambodia, TONTOTON, a project developer from Vietnam, removes no-value plastic from the environment to generate the world’s first plastic credit from an independent protocol and third-party verification audit. These credits were achieved through the Ocean Bound Plastic Neutrality Certification from French-based NGO Zero Plastic Oceans, and have been verified by leading global certification specialist Control Union Certifications.
TONTOTON has a plastic collection center in Sihanoukville (Cambodia), which is helping to stop plastic pollution and its flow into the ocean while strengthening vulnerable communities. The center allows residents and informal waste pickers to enjoy the additional income and improve their living conditions.
