[Lao PDR] Technical Guidelines for the Prevention of Plastic and Resin Pellet Leakage from Formal and Informal Recycling Facilities

DOWNLOAD

Existing assessments on plastic waste management have primarily focused on plastic pollution from post-consumption handling of plastics, neglecting the contribution of plastic recycling processes. Limited access to data from informal and formal recycling facilities, coupled with concerns about regulatory actions, hinders information sharing. The consultation workshops held with plastic recyclers in Vientiane uncovered notable gaps in awareness, knowledge, capacity, and access to recycling information and markets.

The guidelines aim to fill knowledge gaps and promote contextually appropriate best practices. They will also encourage industry actors to implement measures to prevent and contain plastic and pellet leakages.

This guidelines is published by the Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific (RRC.AP) of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) with support from ERIA's Regional Knowledge Centre for Marine Plastic Debris under the project "Development and Dissemination of Technical Guidelines for Plastics and Resin Pellets Leakage Prevention from Factories and Informal Recycling Sector in the ASEAN".
