Since its establishment in 2018, CM ECO has become one of Malaysia's leading advocates of eco-conscious living and sustainability. Driven by a vision to create long-lasting meaningful impact to its communities, CM ECO creates awareness built upon these three key pillars: sustainable societal, economical, and environmental growth.
CM ECO has been playing an active role as a supplier of biodegradable and compostable products in Malaysia. Their range of products, which is mostly composed of natural materials, includes sugarcane bagasse food packaging, rice straws, paper bags, as well as wooden and starch-based cutlery. Additionally, they also sell shopping bags made from starch, which is certified biodegradable and compostable by the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) and Kementerian Wilayah Persekutuan (KWP) or Ministry of Federal Territories. This is part of their commitment to advocating the importance to shift from single-use plastic items to an eco-friendlier one.
Beyond supplying biodegradable products, CM ECO also takes part in building sustainable communities through various educational activities. Partnering with local councils, schools, universities, and shopping malls, CM ECO organizes talks, campaigns, and roadshows aimed at raising environmental awareness. Furthermore, to expand their reach and further amplify their impact, CM ECO developed three in-house training programs, mainly for business owners, designed to train them on integrating sustainability and environmental conscious efforts into their business.
The first one of the programs is the ESG series. It aims to introduce trainees, which are business owners, to the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework and equip them with the knowledge to incorporate ESG principles into their business strategic planning. The second is the Circular Economy Series, which offers a comprehensive exploration of circularity through three modules: 1) Circularity: The 12Rs and Basic Theory, 2) Life Cycle Thinking (LCT), Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), the Concept of Decoupling, and 3) Malaysia’s Initiatives and the Business Model Canvas. Lastly, they launched a program targeting individuals who are eager to practice sustainability in their daily life. It is called the Monkey Habits Series program, a 30-days program aiming to drive behavioral change to be more eco-conscious.
To date, CM ECO, together with their clients have successfully replaced over 800,000 pieces of single-use plastic items. Additionally, their educational and consultancy initiatives have made a significant impact, with 19 roadshows conducted, partnerships established with 5 universities, and over 180 students and business owners impacted from their programs.
