Strengthening PET Recycling in Cambodia is a Coca Cola Funded Project through the Asia Foundation in partnership with COMPOSTED to boost proper waste storage and PET bottle collection for plastic recycling in Phnom Penh Capital and Battambang city of Cambodia (2023-2024). focussing on the Improving of public awareness and strengthen community recycling practice including school teachers, students, local authorities and business and other stakeholders; and strengthening the capacity of local recycler/local NGO and informal waste collectors on PET collection.
This initiative works with private waste collection firms, local stakeholders, and residents to test interventions, including mobile applications, aimed at increasing accountability and responsiveness in municipal solid waste collection and management in these urban areas. It is funded by USAID and carried out by TAF in partnership with the Triangle Environmental Health Initiative (TEHI) and DevLab@Duke University, involves coordinating on-ground activities in Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, and Siem Reap.
The Plastic Flow Mekong Project is an initiative focused on addressing plastic waste issues in the Mekong region. The project aims to enhance the monitoring and management of plastic leakage using science, technology, and innovation by engaging a diverse range of stakeholders—including public and private sectors, academia, NGOs, and government agencies—the project seeks to develop and implement sustainable solutions for plastic waste management.
COMPOSTED team up with One Earth - One Ocean (oeoo) to do river cleanup in several areas in Cambodia, such as Battambang (April 2018), Kampong Cham (March 2022), Kratie (September 2023), and is expected to continue expanding to other municipalities in 2024. From this project, around 5 tonnes of waste is collected, in which 3 tonnes of them are plastic.
